Dry Eyes

Dry eye syndrome refers to a general term for various diseases in which tear fluid quality or abnormality or kinetic abnormality is caused by any cause, resulting in decreased tear film stability, accompanied by ocular discomfort and/or ocular surface tissue lesion characteristics. Also known as keratoconjunctivitis.

Common symptoms include dry eyes, easy fatigue, itchy eyes, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, thick secretions, fear of wind, photophobia, sensitivity to external stimuli; sometimes the eyes are too dry, the basic tears are insufficient, but stimulate the reflex Tears are secreted, causing frequent tearing;in severe cases, the eyes will be red, swollen, hyperemic, keratinized, and the corneal epithelium will be broken and the filaments will adhere. This damage can cause keratoconjunctival lesions and affect vision.

Dry eye disease is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment. If the tears are excessively evaporated due to eyelid exposure, the eyelid reconstruction should be performed according to the condition of the operation of the eyelid reconstruction.


Local treatment

(1) Elimination of incentives Avoid using the computer for a long time, and less exposure to dry eye causes such as air conditioning and soot environment; those with meibomian gland dysfunction should pay attention to clean eyelids and apply antibiotics.

(2) Alternative treatment of tear components In the application of autologous serum or artificial tears, severe patients should try to use artificial tears without preservatives.

(3) Prolong the retention time of tears on the ocular surface. It can be equipped with a wet room mirror, a silicone eye mask, and a therapeutic contact lens.

(4) Others Avoid taking drugs that reduce tear secretion, such as blood pressure lowering drugs, antidepressants, atropine analogs, etc.; types with immune factors may be combined with immunosuppressants or short-term topical use of hormones.

2. Systemic treatment

Mainly to improve the nutritional status of patients and prevent secondary infections. Eat foods rich in vitamin A, such as milk, eggs, vegetables containing carotene; oral cod liver oil.
